Department of Chemistry

Nuclear Chemistry

Nuclear chemistry in the Department is based at the Cyclotron Institute, one of only a few university-based cyclotrons in the United States. A K500 cyclotron and a K150 cyclotron are capable of producing beams with a wide range of masses and energies, and a radioactive beam program is under development to provide unstable beams to a variety of instruments. Our research is conducted with collaborators from Texas A&M, across the nation, and around the world. The primary areas of research are nuclear reaction dynamics, the nuclear equation of state, the radiochemistry of heavy and superheavy elements, and nuclear forensics.
