I was assigned the task of webmaster for the First Year Chemistry Program in Spring 1997 and since I am self-taught and still write much of the pages directly in html code, I have stayed fairly simple over the years. To see the link to the main First Year Chemistry page, click HERE. My website for this semester's class is HERE.

Having a good website is critical these days. I use mine mainly for supplying content and providing useful links. I post my syllabus and previous year's exams and the answers to multiple choice questions. I purposely only use WebCT for posting grades, because I firmly believe that in providing my information to everyone. I receive emails from people all over the world thanking me for the content I have put on the website. When I realized how lacking our studetns are in math skills, I wrote a Math Skills Review, which was honored by the sciLINKS program, a service of the National Science Teachers Association in 2001. I also wrote a series of Sample Exam Questions for every chapter of our textbook to help students study.

I'm always looking for ways to advise students on how to succeed in college and putting them on the website:

  • I wrote a powerpoint presentation on How to Succeed in Chem 101 and 102.
  • I adapted with permission a powerpoint presentation on How to Ace First Year Chemistry, by Saundra Y. McGuire, Ph.D., Director, Center for Academic Success, Adjunct Professor, Department of Chemistry, Louisiana State University.
  • I even scanned a very thorough and funny book (with permission), called Toward Success in College, by Dr. Rod O'Connor & Dr. Tom Taylor, who once taught chemistry at TAMU.
