My research focus is the exploration of molecular magnetic materials with under-explored exchange pathways. One specific aim is to prepare dinuclear model compounds with metal-based paramagnetic spin centers bridged by tetrazine-based ligands that are stable in a radical form. Compounds of both transition and rare earth elements are targeted and expected to exhibit excellent magnetic communication and may exhibit single molecule magnet behavior. A second effort is directed at the design and magnetic study of homoleptic paramagnetic metal anionic complexes based on the fluoride ligand which are extremely rare. The objective of this project is to synthesize a family of complexes that will allow us to better understand how the M-F-M linkage can be used to tune magnetic properties of such complexes.
