Thereafter, he joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and went on to receive his M.Sc. degree in Chemistry in 2012. During this time, he worked under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Tarun Kumar Sarkar on the total synthesis of Xyloketal natural products using Au catalyzed cyclization reaction. Shortly afterwards, Sougata was selected in the International Graduate School of Chemistry (GSc-Ms) at University of Muenster, Germany for a PhD program in Chemistry. He worked under the guidance of Prof Dr. Bernhard Wünsch on design synthesis pharmacological evaluation and docking studies of differently substituted 3-benzazepines as GluN2B and ? receptor ligands and received his PhD degree in 2016. He is currently doing research with the Sczepanski group. His current projects involve the development of modified L-DNA aptamers to target structured D-RNA molecule.
