John Gordon was raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and graduated from the University of Virginia in 2018 with a B.Sc. in chemistry. As part of the undergraduate student program at Los Alamos National Laboratory, John worked towards isolating and characterizing a copper-containing amine oxidase enzyme related to secondary metabolite production in C. thermocellum. Later, he returned to LANL to focus on the synthesis of novel, peptidomimetic, "peptoid" polymers. In the fall of 2018, John joined the Sczepanski Group to begin studying mirror-image DNA aptamers.
