Average Overall Professor Rating (4.75 out of 5)
    CHEM 102 Mericle24
" Strengths
Dr K is a very enthusiatic teacher who wants you to do well. Overall, her tests were fair and there are plenty of opporunitites to get more points. Also, her grade curve was very good. If she sees that the class is working hard towards the end of the semester, she will help you out.
Drawbacks
The only drawbacks are that there is a lot of homework, CPR, and CSB. It is time consuming, but I looked at it as a way to bring my grade up in case my tests grades werent so good." - 12/19/2004

" Strengths
Dr. K is definately the prof you need to take if your taking Chem 101 or Chem 102. I had an A at midterm and I started to slack off with the labs and such and still managed to pull off a B. Her curves are VERY generous as she sometimes curves her tests and gives you a big curve at the end of the semester. There were 3tests, all were 60% multiple and 40% free-response. You can take a makeup exam without any penalty but all makeups are 100% free-response. I found that makeup tests are not too bad since you get an extra week to study and she gives you partial points even if you don't really know the answer to those problems.
Drawbacks
Make sure you go to class, since there are "pop quizzes". Those quizzes aren't hard and you can talk with other students and work together. They only are 3points each but they add up. Her handwriting isn't the best and sometimes you can't make out what the word is but you can always ask ur neighbor or dr.k" - 05/21/2004

WOW! What an awesome teacher! She really cares about her students and YOUR GRADE! We had so many opportunities for bonus points...which I like! Take her if you can!" - 05/08/2004

" Strengths
She is a GREAT teacher! it is hard to make a chem class interesting, but she can do it! her lectures weren't that bad, just long. There are SI's for both the class and the lab. She gives you a lot of stuff to do for your grade, like homework, quizes, labs etc. so if you dont do good on the test your not screwed. She curves on each of her tests, and if you have a problem with grading just go in and ask her and she will most likely change it for you. She likes to get to know her students so just go in and talk to her and you will do fine!
Drawbacks
You do have to do a lot of work for her class. She gives out a lot of homework, and a lot of quizes. Plus the lab is REALLY boring and a lot of work." - 05/07/2004

" Strengths
Dr. K is an excellent prof. She realizes that everyone doesn't have an extensive background in chemistry, and so she is very thorough in explaining the concepts. She really cares about the students and wants them to learn. Finish the homework before the test, review her old exams (which you will notice are very similar to the one you are handed on exam day) and you should get an A. I did and I had q-dropped another prof.
Drawbacks
There are quite a few homework problems to complete, but there is actually additional benefit to completing these because they help boost your test scores. The most annoying was Calibrated Peer Review, but I think all the profs are using that now." - 03/27/2004

" Strengths
Dr. K. is an awesome professor! All of her notes are on her website. She also has the previous semester's tests posted on her website. Her tests are 60 points multiple choice and 40 points free response. She explains things really well and never gets annoyed with questions during lecture. There are quizes, but they are open note and she encourages you to work with your neighbors in class. She is very accessible via e-mail and office hours. ANYTIME she is in her office she will help you out! She wants to help you succeed in and understand chemistry. She really does care and that puts her a cut above the rest!! There is computer and book homework, but it all helps you on her tests. Many test problems are similar to the homework problems she assigns. She is excited about the subject matter and gets the students interested. I wish she taught Organic Chem, because I would DEFINITELY take her again!!!
Drawbacks
In my mind, there are no drawbacks to taking Dr. K.'s class. In fact, she's so good it's hard to get in her class! I guess that's a drawback! =0)" - 01/12/2004

" Strengths
She is a great prof and very helpful with any questions you have about anything. There are 3 tests and a final with some homework online(pretty easy) and some bonus problems. I would encourage doing the bonus problems becuase they help a lot and give you up to 2 points added to your final grade. Just go over your notes and do the practice tests she has at the annex and the real tests will be a breeze; an A is very attainable." - 11/25/2003

" Strengths
She is the best!!! If you are going to take chemistry than take her. I actually understood everything. All her notes(hand-written) are on the internet. She puts these on the overhead during class while she is explaing. We do CSB(Chem Skills Builder) but what class doesn't? Plus you have until the end of the semester to complete them. She gives a quiz about every other week. They are easy and you get three drops. Also, she has one of the best websites ever. It includes old tests, math reviews, etc. Also, she offers weekly rewiews.
Drawbacks
The only drawback that I can think of is that she only teaches 101 and 102." - 09/19/2003

" Dr. K was the best prof I had for Chem. She wanted the students to learn and gave a very reasonable curve. Her tests were very fair and if you work the old tests, she takes questions off of them and rewords them. She gives alot of extra work but it helps your grade out. I recommend taking Dr. K if you have to take Chem." - 05/13/2003

" She is a great prof...very willing to give you help if you need it. Her make-up policy is great because if you don't want to take the test on the assigned day you can just email her and take it on the assigned make-up day which is usually about a week and a half later. If you want to learn Chemistry and are willing to put in some time for that take her." - 04/30/2003

What is the Usefulness Rating?
The usefulness rating is derived from both a rank that is assigned to each review by Pick-A-Prof when the review is accepted and by the votes that Pick-A-Prof members have given for each review. Members can vote whether a review was useful or not by selecting either the thumbs up or the thumbs down that is located beneath each review. All review usefulness ratings are updated every 24 hours to reflect what members think about each review.
