Crystallographic Personnel

The X-ray Diffraction Laboratory is staffed by two full-time Ph.D. level scientists. Together they represent more than 50 years of crystallographic experience. They have published many peer-reviewed papers as well as edited/authored a major crystallographic book : Principles and Applications of Powder Diffraction.

The X-ray user committee, chaired by Professor Donald Darensbourg, supervises and directs the laboratory. To join the X-ray User committee please notify Dr. Darensbourg.

Joseph H. Reibenspies, Ph.D.  is a Senior Research Instrument Specialist with Texas A & M University.   In this role, Dr. Reibenspies manages a team providing all aspects of X-ray Diffraction, including Single-Crystal, Powder and Small Angle Scattering.   Dr. Reibenspies is a qualified crystallographer and holds a Ph.D. degree from Colorado State University.  Dr. Reibenspies is no stranger to diffraction having spent 30 years as a crystallographer and a chemist, which taught him the importance of structural science

Dr. Reibenspies offers a wide range of services - from crystallographic sciences, to pharmaceutical applications and expert diffraction advice.  His book “Principles and Applications of Powder Diffraction” was published in 2008 and has since helped hundreds of people with their powder diffraction needs.   Dr. Reibenspies has published over 350 scientific articles, edited scientific journals, served as an expert, and served on committees for the President of Texas A & M University, among others.
