Son's group is a recent addition to the department of chemistry at Texas A&M University. The research of Son's group is in the field of chemistry and physics of the nanocrystalline materials.

The main interest of the research is experimental investigation of the optical, electronic, magnetic and dynamic structural properties of nanocrystalline materials using ultrafast time-resolved optical and x-ray spectroscopy. We are also interested in synthesis of nanocrystalline materials that have useful optical, electronic and structural properties.
