Ashley was born and raised in Winchester, TN. She received a B.S. in Chemistry in 2013 from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she studied the self-assembly of molecular squares under Dr. Greg Grant and completed an honors thesis on photoinduced cleavage of DNA by Rh(III) thioether complexes under the tutelage of Dr. Jisook Kim. After graduation she moved to Texas A&M to further study organometallic and coordination chemistry.
