Former Ozerov Group Members

Valerie Scott

Valerie Scott (Brandeis Class of 2005) is a native of Connecticut.  She joined the Ozerov Group in the Fall of 2003 as a junior.  Immediately prior to joining this group, in the summer of 2003, she spent 3 months doing research at Yale in the group of Prof. Ron Breaker.  Valerie’s work in our group involved the studies of the first-ever catalytic hydrodefluorination of aliphatic C-F bonds under mild conditions.  The publication in J. Am. Chem. Soc. based on this work was highlighted in Chemical and Engineering News.  Valerie is a devoted dancer and she was one of the leaders of the Adagio Dance Company at Brandeis.  Valerie graduated with B.S. degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, magna cum laude with highest honors in May of 2005 and soon thereafter traveled across the US to start her graduate studies at Caltech early.  She first joined the group of Prof. Jonas Peters but eventually migrated to the Bercaw group.  Valerie was the first undergraduate student to complete her thesis research in the Ozerov group.
