Lei Fan

 

 

Lei (Leo) Fan is a native of China where he received his undergraduate training in the Sichuan University.  There he earned a B.S. degree in 1998 and a Master’s degree in 2001.  Originally an organic chemist by training, he briefly worked in Prof. Snider’s group after his arrival to Brandeis in the fall of 2001.  Soon after Oleg’s arrival at Brandeis, he switched to the Ozerov group in the Spring of 2003.  Leo pioneered the synthesis of the PNP ligand in our group.  He worked on several diverse projects including studies of N-C and N-H cleavage at group 10 metal centers, catalytic coupling reactions catalyzed by PNP-supported transition metal Lewis acids, and oxidative addition reactions occurring at the (PNP)Ir center.  He obtained his M.S. degree from Brandeis in 2002 while continuing his Ph.D. studies.  In July of 2006, he defended his Ph.D. dissertation.  Leo had always wanted to expand his horizons upon graduation and soon after his defense he departed for University of Alberta where he was a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Hicham Fenniri with the National Institute of Nanotechnology.  Leo is the author of the first Ozerov group publication and he is also the first student to graduate with a Ph.D. from our group.  Following a postdoctoral stint in Alberta, in 2007 Leo took up a position in Shanghai Chempartner, a custom synthesis company.
