Professor Kristjan Haller

Kristjan completed his Ph.D on "Raman Scattering Investigation of Phase Transitions and Lattice Dynamics in Crystals with Disordered Cation Substitution" at the University of Tartu, Estonia, in 1973.  Dr. Haller then worked at the Estonian Academy of Sciences as a research associate, next served as Director of the Raman Research Program, and  finally became Research Director of the Institute of Physics in 1989, in which position he served until 1994. From 1994 to 2003, he was the Director of the Institute of Physics of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, which in 1997 merged with the University of Tartu. In May of 2003, he assumed his current position as the Deputy Secretary General for Education and Research within the Estonian Ministry of Education & Research in Tartu, Estonia.

Professor Niklas Meinander

Niklas is currently a senior lecturer  in the Department of Technology at the National Defence College in  Helsinki, Finland.  He completed his Ph.D in Physics at the University of Helsinki in 1981.  Dr. Meinander then worked as a researcher at the University of Helsinki, a post-doctoral fellow and research associate at the University of Manitoba, and then took a position as Professor of Physics at the University of Helsinki in 1989.  His research interests include: molecular physics, intermolecular interactions, potential energy surfaces for low frequency, large amplitude vibrations of ring molecules, and vibrational spectroscopic characterization of the glass transition in sugars.

Professor Jaebum Choo

Choo received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, in 1984 and 1986, respectively. He pursued graduate study in Physical Chemistry at Texas A&M University and joined Dr. Laane's group in 1989.  He received his doctoral degree in 1994. In 1995, he joined the faculty of Hanyang University in Ansan, Korea, where he is now the Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry.

Professor Katsuhiko Okuyama

Katsu received his Ph. D. in Science from Tohuku University in Japan in 1987. His research topic was "Electronically Excited Flexible Molecules". He currently is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Chemistry & Engineering at Nihon University in Japan.

Professor Daniel Autrey

Daniel completed his Ph.D. on “Spectroscopic and Theoretical Investigation of the Potential Energy Surfaces of Selected Cyclic and Bicyclic Molecules” at Texas A&M University in 2003. He had previously earned his B.S. in Chemistry at Southeast Missouri State University in 1996. From 2002-2003, Daniel was a visiting Assistant Professor at Southeast Missouri State University.  After receiving his Ph.D. in 2003, Daniel took the position he currently holds as Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC.

Professor Carlos Omar Della Vedova

Carlos is currently a tenured professor at Universidad Nacional de La Plata in La Plata, Argentina. He received his Ph.D. in 1983 from La Plata University, and then did post-doctoral studies at Ruhr Universität in Bochum, Germany.  In 1990, he joined the staff at La Plata University, and rose through the ranks to assume his position as Full Professor in 2003. Professor Della Vedova and his group investigate difficult to prepare, but important inorganic molecules, such as sulfenyl carbonyls, which few other people in the world have the courage to study.  They utilize complex preparative methods and characterize the molecules using sophisticated methods of analysis:  infrared and Raman spectra, matrix isolation, nmr, mass spectroscopy, photochemical excitation, and ab initio calculations (at high levels).  His laboratory in La Plata is probably the most advanced in Argentina. He has had a collaboration with Dr. Jaan Laane for several years.

Professor Rosana Mariel Romano

Rosana received her license in Chemistry from the University of La Plata in 1993, and then proceeded with advanced studies to receive her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of La Plata in 1998. She has held a research position through CEQUINOR since the year 2000. She assumed her current position as Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at La Plata in 2004. (Photo not available)
