Nuclear Spin Optical Rotation
Drawing of multi-channel NMR probeWe are developing methods for applying the nuclear spin optical rotation (NSOR) effect in a combined optical and NMR spectroscopy. NSOR can be understood as a special case of the Faraday effect. The Faraday effect describes the rotation of light polarization in a medium with an applied magnetic field. In the case of NSOR, the magnetic field is provided by nuclear spins. The NSOR effect depends on the hyperfine interaction between nuclei and electrons, and therefore can potentially be used to simultaneously probe NMR and electronic properties.
