My research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of new cyanide bridged metal clusters using the highly anisotropic 3d transition metal ion V(III). This ion has been predicted to exhibit strong exchange coupling with several divalent metal ions but no data exists to support this claim. Synthesis goals include incorporating the vanadium ion into the axial positions of a trigonal bipyramidal cluster with various divalent metals in the axial positions. Other research focuses on the synthesis of novel fluoride bridged metal clusters using a building block approach with divalent and trivalent hexafluorometallates as precursors.
