My research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of molecular magnets and molecular conductors based on coordination polymers of 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) and its derivatives. The TCNQ ligand is very stable in its radical anion form and, as such, it is very useful as a spin carrier in coordination compounds. The co-assembly of TCNQ radicals with transition metal, lanthanide metal ions, and 3d-4f heterodinuclear building blocks leads to materials that exhibit interesting magnetic and/or electronic properties.
