The eight finalists of the 2010 Texas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium are, from left to right: Jordan Zesch, Caroline Lopez-Trevino, Neil Redfield, Andrew Mahre, Rounok Jourdar, Derek Lam, Michele Myong, and Elizabeth Quigley (who is not shown in picture).

These high school students are nominated by their teachers to give a presentation in one of four different categories. Two students from each category are then selected to give further presentations for a chance to win top prizes, which include scholarship money, and a paid trip to the symposium. The winners of the event this year are as follows:

  • 1ST PLACE: Rounok Jourdar, from Plano West Senior High School, received a trophy and a $1,500 undergraduate tuition scholarship sponsored by the U.S. Army.
  • 2ND PLACE: Jordan Zesch, from Keystone School, received a trophy and a $1,500 undergraduate tuition scholorship sponsored by the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force.
  • 3RD PLACE: Carolina Lopez-Trevino, from John Jay Science & Engineering Academy, received a trophy and a $1,000 undergraduate tuition scholarship sponsored by the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force.
