In June of 2005, Dr. Brian Connell will take up the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Texas A&M University. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow with Professor Grubbs at the California Institute of Technology.
Dr. Connell received his B.S. degree from the University of Rochester, New York and his Ph.D. from Harvard University. His research efforts have focused generally in the area of organic synthesis. In particular, his work has encompassed the total synthesis of bioactive natural products as well as the development of new organometallic reagents for chemical synthesis.
Dr. Connell intends to focus his research efforts on the development of new methods for the synthesis of complex, chiral molecules, and then employ these methods towards efficient total syntheses of rare, biologically interesting natural products. Asymmetric organometallic catalysis with play a central role in his work. Dr. Connell brings a high level of excitement for research and teaching to our faculty, and we trust that his programs will establish national and international impact.
