David E. BergbreiterDavid E. Bergbreiter, Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence, has been selected to receive the ACS Southwest Regional Award for 2008. This award recognizes an individual who has made meritorious contributions to the advancement of chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical education, either pure or applied, or to the profession in general. Dr. Bergbreiter will receive $2,000 and an awards plaque at the Southwest Regional Meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas this Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Awards Banquet held at the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library. Previous Texas A&M faculty who received this award include Dr. Larry Peck (2005), Dr. Joseph Natowitz (2000), Dr. Marcetta Darensbourg (1998), Dr. Abraham Clearfield (1996), Dr. John Fackler (1990), Dr. Jack Lunsford (1983), Dr. F. Albert Cotton (1977).

Dr. David Bergbreiter has been recognized for numerous awards at the University Level including the Presidential Professor Teaching Excellence (a lifetime appointment), University-Level Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award for Research (2008) , Wells Fargo Honors Faculty Mentor Award (2005), University Professorship in Undergraduate Teaching Excellence (2003), Eppright University Professorship for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence (2002) and the University-level Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching (1997).
