Dr. Dong Hee Son will join the Department of Chemistry at Texas A&M University as an assistant professor in August of 2005. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Dr. Son received his B.S. and M.S. degree from the Seoul National University, Korea and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. His research interest has been studying ultrafast electronic and vibrational dynamics of a variety of condensed phase systems ranging from the solvated electron to quantum dots.
One of Dr. Son's future researches will focus on obtaining fundamental understanding of the structural and electronic dynamics of molecular and nanocrystalline materials using both ultrafast optical and x-ray probes. Structural phase transitions and coherent atomic motions in nanocrystalline solids are of particular interest. Along with this effort, making new types of nanocrystalline materials having interesting and useful structural properties will be also an important part of his research.
