IUCCP
Member Recognition
All
member companies are recognized in Departmental literature and programs.
Student awareness of company support is heightened through direct
IUCCP support of Department activities, various Symposia, and interactions
that the IUCCP has with faculty, students, and staff.
Fall
Student/Post-Doctoral Research Symposium
Each
year, the IUCCP sponsors a 2-day showcase of the on-going research
being conducted by many of the Department's students and post-doctoral
research associates. Both formal presentations and interactive poster
sessions are held. An informal social gathering and dinner is held
to recognize the outstanding papers and posters with monetary awards
to the winners.
The
symposium fee is waived for IUCCP members (both Full & Associate).
Spring
Advisory Board Meeting and Departmental Review
The
Advisory Board (Full Members plus others noted above) annually reviews
the status of the Chemistry Department, the College of Science,
the overall chemistry graduate program, and the use/impact of the
IUCCP support. In addition, 4 to 6 faculty members summarize their
specific research programs. The Advisory Board then assesses progress
versus goals and program direction. It makes its recommendations
to the Department Head.
Recruiting
Support
Full
Members receive information compiled by the Department concerning
upcoming graduates as well as preferential use of Department staff
and facilities for on-site recruiting. Associate Members receive
upcoming graduate information and Department recruiting assistance
on an as-available basis.
Free
Consultation
Full
Members have the opportunity to take advantage of the "voluntary
consultation day" that many of the faculty offer in support
of IUCCP and its participants. On a voluntary basis, a faculty member
will offer one day of consultation to an IUCCP Full Member company
to discuss non-proprietary information or provide an on-site technology
update in his/her area of expertise. The company is expected to
pay for transportation, lodging and meals, but no consultation fee
is charged. This is available on a first-come, first-served basis,
and a list of faculty volunteering this service is available from
the IUCCP Director.
On-Site
Sabbaticals/Use of Facilities
Full
Member companies are encouraged to place personnel on-site at Texas
A&M for skills enhancement or to utilize equipment and resources
that the Department possesses. The Department of Chemistry will
make space available as appropriate and assist in equipment access.
Companies are expected to continue to cover salaries and living
expenses of their on-site employees. If proprietary considerations
need to be addressed, these should be handled prior to arrival on-site.
Chemical
Science Education Forum
A
new aspect to the IUCCP is the recognition that the IUCCP offers
to chemical and life sciences companies and an opportunity to mutually
share perspectives on chemical science education at the university
level. The IUCCP has the potential to provide visible, outspoken
direction concerning the needs of the industries that utilize chemical
science graduates and rely on university research programs and their
faculty. The Chemistry Department and the College of Science at
Texas A&M have a stated desire to understand and express industry
needs. IUCCP member companies and their representatives are encouraged
to use IUCCP activities to focus their collective input and express
it to Texas A&M, other institutions, and government agencies.
