Prospective Students: Application Checklist

In order for an application to be considered complete, all of the following items need to be received.

1. Department of Chemistry application (click to apply)
2. Texas A&M University application
3. Application fee (no fee required for domestic and/or permanent resident applicants)
4. Official GRE scores
5. Official transcripts (2 copies)
6. Three letters of recommendation
7. Personal statement
8. Resume (optional)
9. TOEFL scores (international only)

Domestic Student and U.S. Permanent Resident Information

• There is no application fee for domestic and/or permanent resident chemistry graduate applicants.
• Official scores from the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) must be sent by Educational Testing Services to TAMU, Code 6003 . We can make a decision on your application with self-reported scores, but we must have official scores to formally admit you into the program.
• The GRE Subject Test in Chemistry is recommended but not required.
• An official transcript for all post-secondary education must be sent to the Chemistry Department. Again, we can make a decision on your application using an unofficial transcript, but we must have an official transcript to formally admit you into the program.
• Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your ability to conduct research and/or be successful in a graduate program are required. One letter should come from your research supervisor if you have conducted research.
• A personal statement expressing your reason for pursuing advanced studies in chemistry is required.
• You may also want to add information about how you learned of our program or if there are specific special programs or training grants involving Chemistry faculty that attracted you.

International Student Information

• Two application forms must be completed: the Chemistry Department application and the TAMU application
• Official scores from the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) must be sent by Educational Testing Services to TAMU, Code 6003 We can make a decision on your application (before receiving your application fee) with self-reported scores, but we must have official scores to formally admit you into the program.
• The GRE Subject Test in Chemistry is strongly recommended but not required. The GRE Subject Test is a highly valuable tool for evaluating the international applicant.
• Two sets of official transcripts for all post-secondary education must be sent to the Chemistry Department. Again, we can make a decision on your application using unofficial transcripts, but we must have official transcripts to formally admit you into the program. The University requires transcripts in your native language plus an official English language translation .
• Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your ability to conduct research and/or be successful in a graduate program.
• A personal statement expressing your reason for wanting to conduct graduate studies in chemistry.
• Official TOEFL scores. We can make a decision on your application using self-reported scores; however, we must receive official scores to formally admit you into the program. The ability of the applicant to speak, read, and write the English Language is required for acceptance into the graduate program. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper test) or 213 (computerized) is required.
• The Test of Spoken English (TSE) is not required, but is HIGHLY recommended.
• The deadline for international applicants is January 31.
