How to Surplus Equipment

Please notify the Chemistry Department Business Office, Room 119, 845-3335, when equipment has been declared as surplus. Surplus equipment is defined by the University's Property Management Office as and longer needed, not working, or cannibalized.

The following information is required for the surplus process:

  1. Which agency owns the equipment: Texas A&M University, Research Foundation, TEES...
  2. The Inventory/Fixed Asset number permanently affixed to the equipment.
  3. Current room location.
  4. Current condition of the equipment: in working condition, not working or cannibalized.
  5. Can equipment be easily moved?
  6. Certain categories of equipment: lasers, x-ray equipment, gas chromatographs .... require a safety waiver from the Office of Environmental Health and Safety before the equipment can be physically moved from the end-user's laboratory.
  7. Computers and computer-related equipment require the hard drive to be erased or removed.

Requesting Surplus Property

If you request equipment from the Surplus Property Office to be transferred to the Chemistry Department, please reserve your items at Surplus. Surplus Property Office personnel will provide you with a Property Transfer form which requires an Authorization signature from the Chemistry Business Office to validate the transfer of equipment.

Do Not Leave Equipment in Hallways

No equipment should be left in the hallways without contacting the Chemistry Business Office with information how long it will be left in the hallways.
