Graduate Student Life
Graduate students within the Department participate in many of the activities coordinated by the Graduate Student Office. Examples are Graduate Visitation Weekend for prospective students, Teaching Assistantship Training, departmental picnics, student mentoring, and a Resume Booklet for distribution to industrial employers. The department benefits greatly from the leadership and variety of activities sponsored by the Graduate Student Association in Chemistry (GSAC), Phi Lambda Upsilon (PLU, an honorary chemical society), and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE).
Graduate students typically relax, socialize, and exchange ideas in the Graduate Student Study. The study has desk space, couches, refrigerators, microwave, an eating area, and computer access. Students also participate in extra-curricular activities together such as softball teams, intramural tennis, golf, and other outdoor activities.
